The Parish of St Thomas is the only Liberal Catholic parish in Canberra. Our choice of St Thomas as the Patron of our Parish is explained elsewhere on this website.
The Liberal Catholic Church aims to combine stately ritual, deep mysticism and witness to the reality of sacramental grace – with the widest measure of intellectual liberty, and respect for the individual conscience. Compared with the Roman Catholic Church, we allow our priests to be married, provide open communion and we have a more liberal attitude towards divorce, contraception and several other issues. More information on the teachings and a brief history of this Church are available on the Australian Province’s website.
